Calgary Citizen Newsletter Thursday Sept. 7

Good morning, there!

I’m excited to tell you that I’ll be taking a much-needed break to spend some time to adventure and explore on a road trip. Because we have a small team, that means we are going to pause the newsletter for a week just to give me some time to take photos, eat the food, drink the drinks, and have some fun and rest! Members will still see a Saturday newsletter this week but for everyone else, there won’t be a newsletter again until Tuesday, Sept. 19. But still watch for our events newsletter in your inbox on Tuesday. I’ll be back soon!

The iconic and popular Marv's Classic Soda Shop shut its doors for the final time this week. Diamond Valley’s 1950s-themed destination for burgers, milkshakes, and candy has been a popular destination in the heart of the southern Alberta with travellers coming from all over to enjoy the food, drinks, and nostalgia.

Nostalgia: The vintage vinyl jukebox has been sold, along with the rest of the mid-century decor that has adorned the diner's walls for more than 23 years., according to CTV News.

History: As CTV explains, Marv initially opened up the store as an antique shop but soon after, he began selling candy, then ice cream, and then eventually operations expanded to a full-service diner and candy shop.

Struggles: The vintage diner had been a fixture in southern Alberta since the turn of the century but throughout recent years, business slowed down putting the diner at risk of closing, as Global News reports.

Colourful character: As Global news reports, Marv is a colourful character and they just don’t make diners like they used to. A bittersweet goodbye.
